Fannette Island is a small island located in Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, United States. It is perhaps one of Lake Tahoe's most iconic landmarks. It is home to the only "castle" on the lake - the ruins of a building built in 1929 by the wealthy businesswoman and philanthropist, Lora Knight. It is the only island on the lake and is a rather scenic area. Visitors to the island can explore the ruins of the castle, which has become overgrown and is not accessible to the public. There is also a rather scenic picnic area on the island with stunning views of Lake Tahoe. Swimming and boating around the island is a popular activity, although visitors should take necessary precautions due to the cold waters and strong currents.
