Fälensee is a narrow alpine lake at about 1,452 metres in the Alpstein massif of Appenzell Innerrhoden, south of Brülisau. Steep limestone ridges enclose its elongated basin, giving the scene a fjord-like appearance despite its inland mountain setting. Pale rock faces, green alpine slopes and dark water create strong contrasts, while calm conditions allow the surrounding cliffs to reflect across the lake. The view from the eastern end emphasizes its length and the scale of the enclosing mountains. Here, the Bollenwees mountain inn forms a recognizable human landmark beside the water, connecting the rugged landscape with the Alpstein’s tradition of mountain hospitality. Brülisau is a starting point for walking routes into this part of the range.
