📍 Canada
The Falaise d’escalade de glace is a seasonal ice-climbing cliff in Rivière-du-Loup, in Quebec’s Bas-Saint-Laurent region. Winter freezing turns flowing and seeping water into curtains, columns and rounded bulges of blue-white ice, creating a surface that changes with temperature and weather. The strongest photographs contrast the luminous ice with dark exposed rock and surrounding trees; climbers, ropes and ice tools add a clear sense of scale and reveal the site’s sporting purpose. Climbing conditions vary through the season and require appropriate technical experience and equipment.
