Externsteine is a unique rock formation located in Horn-Bad Meinberg, Germany, near the Teutoburg Forest. The formation consists of five flat-topped sandstone blocks set on top of each other and connected by a staircase. The site has been a place of spiritual pilgrimage and religious devotion since the 9th century. Externsteine offers dramatic views of the surrounding countryside and is a great place to view local wildlife. There are numerous spots around the formation where people can take in the peaceful atmosphere and take pictures of the historic monument. There is a visitor's center located nearby, where people can learn more about the history of the formation and see artifacts from thousands of years of religious use.
