Esztergomi Bazilika is a large Neo-Classical style church which stands in Štúrovo, Slovakia. It is the only example of 19th century architecture in the town. This is one of Slovakia’s most impressive churches and it is full of history. It lies on the site of an old Benedictine monastery which was built in 1248 and destroyed by the Turks in the mid-15th century. The present church was built between 1739 and 1750 and has a unique Neo-Classical style almost unseen in other churches in Slovakia. Inside, the church has an impressive gilded high altar, as well as three more smaller altars. The interior is decorated with a variety of beautiful frescoes. The church is open to visitors and makes a great spot for photography.
