📍 Brazil
The Estufa is the landmark glasshouse of Curitiba’s Botanical Garden, east of the city centre in the Jardim Botânico district. Opened in 1991, its iron-and-glass structure draws inspiration from London’s Crystal Palace, combining an industrial framework with the ornamental curves associated with Art Nouveau. Inside, plants native to Brazil’s Atlantic Forest connect the building to the country’s botanical diversity. Outside, formal French-style gardens create a contrasting landscape of clipped hedges, geometric beds and carefully ordered paths. Viewed along the main garden axis, these patterns lead the eye toward the glasshouse’s symmetrical façade and three domes; closer views reveal the repeating metal ribs against dense tropical foliage.
