Estatua de Felipe III is a bronze equestrian statue of Philip III of Spain located in the Plaza Mayor in Madrid. It is believed to be the work of Felix Lorenzo, and was built between 1616 and 1618. The statue overlooks the Plaza Mayor, an important plaza in the city center, formerly used for public gatherings. It shows the ruler in the full regalia of a monarch, wearing a laurel wreath, a cape and a golden crown. The statue was created to commemorate the victories of Philip III during the Battle of Lepanto and the Battle of Nieuwpoort. It was refurbished and relocated for several times since its original construction. Today, it stands in the center of the plaza, surrounded by its ancient and ochre buildings.
