📍 From Parque del Retiro, Spain
The Estanque del Palacio de Cristal is the pond beside the glass-and-iron pavilion in Madrid’s El Retiro Park. Built for the 1887 Philippine Islands Exhibition, the palace reflects a chapter of Spain’s colonial history as well as the greenhouse architecture of its era. From across the water, its arched façade and domed roof form a reflection broken by trees rising from the pond, a detail that makes this corner of Retiro instantly recognizable.
