Escuelas Menores de la Universidad de Salamanca is a historic landmark in the city of Salamanca, Spain. It was constructed between 1514-1529 during the reign of Spanish emperor Charles V. The building is heavily influenced by the Italian Renaissance style, and is unique because of the presence of three different styles in the same complex, namely Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. The most impressive feature of the building is the cloister of two-story galleries encircling a central gallery and the two-story open contour galleries. Since 1855 the Escuelas Menores de la Universidad de Salamanca has been declared a National Monument of Spain and it is one of the most important historical landmarks in Spain. Today, the building is open to the public and it serves as a University Library as well as a cultural centre, and a symbol of the city’s history and culture. Visitors will be able to appreciate the many sculptural and decorative elements covering the walls, and will also be able to take in breath taking views of the city’s historic centre.
