Erg Chebbi is a broad sand sea on the Saharan edge of southeastern Morocco, beside Ksar Tanamouste and the nearby village of Merzouga. An “erg” is a field of wind-shaped dunes, and here long ridges, crescent forms, and finely rippled surfaces create an ever-changing landscape. The iron-rich sand shifts from pale gold to deep orange as the light changes, while low sun draws sharp curves and long shadows across the slopes. From the edge of Ksar Tanamouste, buildings and palm groves provide a useful sense of scale against the dunes; farther in, footprints, camel tracks, and wind patterns become the main visual details.
