The Equestrian Statue of Charles I is a bronze statue in Charing Cross in central London. Unveiled in May 1633, it is one of the oldest equestrian statues in England. The statue stands 16 feet high on a granite pedestal and shows King Charles I sitting on his horse, his cloak flowing and a spear in his right hand. The base of the pedestal was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and is decorated with relief carvings of the British lion, a French griffon, and four wild boar. The statue itself is the work of Hubert Le Sueur who is considered to be one of the greatest English sculptors of the 17th century. Many photographers have been able to capture beautiful and dramatic photographs of this historic statue and its impressive setting.
