Emerald Lake, located at 8500 ft in Allenspark, Colorado USA is the highest natural lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. It is a spectacular mountain lake set among the grandeur of Colorado's Rocky Mountains. With the Continental Divide and Mount Orton as a backdrop, this lake is one of the most beautiful in the area. There is a boardwalk circling the lake and plenty of hiking trails and camping spots nearby. The lake has an emerald hue, caused by microscopic algae living in the lake, allowing it to reflect the surrounding landscape. The lake is also home to trumpeter swans, cutthroat trout, and many other species of birds and fish. This pristine lake is one of the prime destinations for hikers, campers, and photographers.
