📍 From Road, Germany
Eltz Castle, a medieval castle in Germany, is renowned for its picturesque beauty. It is tucked away in a lush forest on the Moselle River’s west bank and south of the city of Koblenz. The castle is set on the site of an old Roman fort and is one of very few castles that have remained standing since its construction in the 12th century. Surrounded by the green hills of the Eltz Valley and built upon a solid sandstone rock, the castle has withstood numerous wars, dynastic changes, and natural disasters. Today, the castle is still owned by a branch of the Eltz family, who have maintained both the castle and its remarkable beauty for over 33 generations. Visitors to the castle can explore numerous historic rooms, filled with interesting furniture and decorations, as well as its beautiful surrounding gardens. Tours of Eltz Castle run from April until October, with the castle being closed during the rest of the year. It makes for a great day trip from nearby cities, such as Cologne or Frankfurt, and a must-visit for history enthusiasts and castle-lovers.
