Eltz Castle
📍 From Entrance, Germany
Eltz Castle is one of the few German castles to have survived mostly unscathed since medieval times. The castle's grandeur is surpassed only by its scenic surroundings: the majestic Burg-Eltz is situated between the Mosel and Ehr rivers, nestled in a vast forest area. It rises 80 meters above the Eltztal valley on a site believed to have been inhabited since 1157. Consisting of three different wings, each attached to a different branch of the noble Eltz family, the castle is an impressive display of architecture. Visitors can take guided tours of the interior of the castle, gaining an insight into the long history of the Eltz family, who have lived on the site for over 850 years. The castle is easily accessible by car, or alternatively, visitors can hike their way up to the castle from the Eltztal valley. The castle grounds also include a deep moat and beautiful gardens filled with rare plants and trees. The forest surrounding the castle also provides an abundance of wildlife and offers stunning walking trails. The castle's beauty and peaceful atmosphere have made it one of Germany's most popular tourist attractions, so come prepared for crowds!
