📍 Spain
Elogio del Horizonte is a monumental concrete sculpture by Basque artist Eduardo Chillida, installed in 1990 on the Cerro de Santa Catalina above Gijón’s historic Cimavilla quarter. Its two sweeping arms open toward the Cantabrian Sea, turning the sky and horizon into part of the work. From within the curved structure, the form acts as an acoustic shell, intensifying the sounds of wind and waves. The sculpture’s stark silhouette, changing shadows and exposed headland setting make it one of Gijón’s most recognizable images, with broad views across the coast and city.
