Elephants Back Peak is a stunning mountain peak located in the Sierra Nevada range near the small town of Markleeville, United States. The mountain, which has an elevation of 9,413 ft, is a popular destination for hikers and campers, especially those looking to explore the open meadows, wildflowers, and awe-inspiring views of the surrounding area. The peak itself is known for its distinctive spire shape, which many say resembles an elephant’s back, hence the name of the mountain. Hikers attempting to reach the peak should prepare for some strenuous hiking and rock climbing as the final stretch up the mountain is quite steep and rugged. This path is for experienced adventurers only but it’s worth the effort for the sweeping panorama afforded from the summit. From here you can spot Mason Lake, the East Fork Carson River, Pacific Crest Trail and more.
