Elbow Reef Lighthouse stands at the entrance to Hope Town Harbour on Elbow Cay in the Abaco Islands, facing the settlement across the water. Built in the 1860s to guide vessels through the surrounding reefs, its red-and-white horizontal bands have become a defining symbol of Hope Town. The tower preserves a rare traditional lighting system, with a kerosene lamp, Fresnel lens, and manually wound rotating mechanism. From the harbour, the lighthouse forms a bold vertical counterpoint to turquoise shallows, moored boats, and pastel island buildings; from the tower, the view opens across Hope Town, the Sea of Abaco, and the narrow cay. Access is by boat, and the lighthouse is cared for as an important piece of Bahamian maritime heritage.
