El Zapato is an incredible rock formation in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. It is a naturally formed rock on a coast located between San Fernando and Monte Cristi. The rock is around 4 meters high and 6 meters in diameter and rises from the blue waters. It offers amazing views at all times of day, especially at dusk when the sky turns purple and the sun illuminates the rocks. The locals believe it has been there since the time of the Taino; however, this is only a folklore since it's formation is still a mystery. Visitors can also swim in the waters around the rocks or simply walk and admire the views. El Zapato is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, making it a great spot to get to know the culture of the Dominican Republic.
