The historic city of Chichen Itza lies approximately halfway between Cancun and Merida in Yucatan, Mexico. Built in the centuries before the Spaniards arrived, the ancient city has been dubbed as one of the ‘New Seven Wonders’ of the world. The city has numerous monuments including the Great Pyramid of Kukulkan, the Temple of the Warriors, the observatory and a large market area. It is also home to the Chichen Itza Ball Court, the largest in its kind in the world. The city provides visitors with a fascinating insight into Mayan civilization. Tickets to enter Chichen Itza need to be purchased prior to arrival, either online or from the ticket office at the entrance of the city.
