The El Capitolio building in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a government building that served as the home of the Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico from 1929 to 1997. It is the second largest capitol building in the world and is encircled by a monument to José de Diego, the “Father of Puerto Rican Nationalism”. The building’s stately Baroque architecture, painted ceilings and mosaics, and interior marble sculptures make it an interesting sight for any traveler. Visitors can see both the Senate and the House of Representatives chambers, as well as the impressive Central Courtyard and the Monument to José de Diego.
