Ehrenbreitstein Fortress
📍 From Koblenz, Germany
Ehrenbreitstein Fortress is an incredibly imposing landmark in Koblenz, Germany. It first became a fortress in the 12th Century, but was later heavily fortified in the 19th Century by the Prussians. It is now a popular tourist destination and an important part of the local landscape. It sits atop a hill overlooking the River Rhine on the East side, and the city of Koblenz on the West. There is a spectacularly scenic cable car ride which takes visitors from the city directly to the Fortress. Once at the top, visitors will be able to explore the many different periods of the Fortress’ history. Inside you can learn about its vast defensive weapons and observe the stunning views of the meandering River below. Make sure to take your time to see everything properly, including the nearby military camps and outbuildings, the various defensive towers and walls, and of course the spectacular ruins of the Venetian Garrison Church. It's a great place to explore a little of Koblenz's long history.
