📍 From Calle de Alcalá, Spain
Edificio Grassy stands at Gran Vía 1, where Madrid’s grand commercial avenue meets Calle de Alcalá, close to the better-known Metrópolis Building. Designed by Eladio Laredo and completed in the early 20th century, it reflects the eclectic architecture that shaped Gran Vía during its creation. The narrow corner site is emphasized by a rounded façade, classical ornament and a tiered rooftop tower, while the illuminated “Grassy” sign—named for the jeweler and watchmaker long associated with the building—has become a recognizable feature of the avenue after dark. From Calle de Alcalá, the building helps frame the sweeping entrance to Gran Vía; tighter views reveal stone reliefs, balconies and the strong vertical rhythm of its windows.
