📍 Germany
Eder-Stausee, also known as the Edersee, is a large reservoir located in Waldeck, Germany, nestled within the picturesque landscapes of the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park. This man-made lake was created by the Eder Dam, constructed between 1908 and 1914, primarily for flood control and hydroelectric power generation. The dam itself is an impressive engineering feat, standing 47 meters high and stretching 400 meters across.

Edersee is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering activities such as sailing, fishing, and hiking. Its surrounding forests provide trails with stunning views, notably the TreeTopWalk, an elevated walkway offering a bird’s-eye view of the diverse flora and fauna. The area is also rich in history, featuring the ruins of Waldeck Castle, which overlook the lake. Visitors can explore the castle to learn about the region's medieval past. The Edersee is a perfect blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue, making it a must-visit spot in northern Hesse.
