Dutch House or the Rotterdam Mansion in Moscow is an architectural legacy from the 17th century. Designed by Dutch construction workers who migrated to the Russian Empire, the house is now a museum dedicated to the Dutch presence in Russia. It features a striking Dutch Landhuizen style, with a gabled roof, stepped pediments, and traditional shutters. Inside, the house’s Dutch Baroque-style interior has been restored to its original colors and the building now contains unique, old-fashioned furniture and decorations. The Dutch House was originally built in 1702 and was used mainly by Dutch merchants and bankers. Since its refurbishment in 1993 by the Ambassador of the Netherlands, the House also features a large collection of Dutch paintings and art works, along with a library and a movie theater. It is still possible to take a tour of the Dutch House, as well as a look inside the library and movie theater, but visitors are reminded to be respectful of the building since it is a part of Russia’s important cultural heritage.
