📍 From Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Italy
Duomo di Noto, located in the beautiful city of Noto in Sicily, Italy, is an iconic baroque church designed by Rosario Gagliardi and completed in 1776. Originally built to replace an older church destroyed by an earthquake, the Duomo di Noto is now a symbol of Italian baroque architecture and a prominent landmark in the city. The facade of the church features Corinthian columns and intricate sculptures, while the interior is decorated with frescoes and stuccoes. The main altar in the centre of the nave is made with marbles and adorned with life-sized statues and a painting depicting the Transfiguration of Christ. Visitors can explore the church’s magnificent interior, complete with a vaulted ceiling, marble stairway and detailed frescoes, as well as observe the spectacular views of the city from the entrance. Unlike some of Sicily’s other churches, Duomo di Noto welcomes visitors to take photographs both inside and outside of the building – but only for non-commercial purposes.
