📍 From Inside, Italy
Duomo di Como, situated in the heart of the northern Italian city of Como, is a breathtaking sight. The church is a Gothic architectural gem, constructed in 1396 at the site of an older Romanesque edifice. The interior is lavishly decorated with 14th-century frescoes and work of the 15th- and 16th-centuries. The main altar is adorned with sculptured angels, surrounded by a glass tabernacle by Tommaso Rodari and other works by 15th-century Florentine sculptors. Above the altar stands a 15th-century wooden crucifix. The Duomo di Como is a popular tourist attraction and a major icon for the city. Taking a tour of the Duomo is both an educational and enjoyable experience as visitors learn about its 1,000-year-old history and get a glimpse of the beautiful interior. Guided tours, which operate from May to September, offer an insight into the church’s features through the eyes and ears of experts.
