Dunnottar Castle is located atop a spectacular rocky outcrop overlooking the North Sea in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Duncan Forbes of Culloden acquired this imposing fortress in 1605. Since then it has been home to numerous inhabitants, among them the Lumsden and Keith families, who owned it until 1925. It is most famous for its role in saving Scotland's Crown Jewels from Cromwell in 1650. It has also been used as filming location for the Hollywood movie "Hamlet" starring Mel Gibson. It has also been featured in several episodes of the popular British TV series "Outlander". Visiting Dunnottar Castle will give you a glimpse into Scotland's history and culture. Its various rooms and rooms with turrets, inner walls and bastions make it an ideal hiking destination for any photography enthusiast. Its storied past lends a unique atmosphere to the area and its majestic view of the North Sea is an absolutely breathtaking sight!
