Dunas de Maspalomas, a stunning stretch of sand dunes located on the south coast of Gran Canaria, Spain, offers photo-travelers a unique landscape akin to a miniature desert by the Atlantic Ocean. This nature reserve spans around 400 hectares, featuring shifting dunes, palm groves, and a brackish lagoon, La Charca. For photographers, the best time to capture the dunes is during sunrise or sunset, when the interplay of light and shadow creates mesmerizing patterns on the sand. Another captivating subject is the local flora and fauna, including the rare Canary Island spurge and various bird species at La Charca. Remember to respect the environment – stick to designated pathways and avoid disturbing the wildlife. Access to the beach areas adjacent to the dunes provides a contrasting backdrop of the turquoise sea against the golden sands. Note that parts of the beach are popular with naturists. For a panoramic view, consider a climb up one of the taller dunes.
