The Dunas de la Difunta (Dunes of the Deceased) lie within the Valle de la Muerte (Valley of Death) in the Province of San Juan, Argentina. These sand dunes are made up of white gypsum, unique to the region and a rare geological feature in South America. In the desert landscape, some areas can reach up to 200 meters tall, affording spectacular views of the horizon and surrounding desert. A major tourist attraction in the area, the dunes are best explored in the early morning, when the low sun creates stunning light and shadows. Nearby, visitors can check out the Quebrada de Cauchari, which is an impressive canyon formed by the Dulce River's water erosion. There is a six-kilometer-long footpath that goes along the canyon and allows visitors to appreciate its beauty up close.
