The Duero River is a Spanish river that forms a natural border between Portugal and Spain. It flows through the provinces of Zamora and Salamanca, before finally joining the Atlantic Ocean near the city of Porto. The Douro River is one of the most important tourist destinations in Zamora. The region along the Douro has stunning landscapes that attract tourists from all over the world. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and fishing. There are three main towns along the river, Miranda do Douro, Alpedrete and Zamora, with many small towns and villages along the way. Visitors may find unique monuments such as Fortified Churches or outstanding medieval constructions in them. For those looking for typical local cuisine, several restaurants are available. This region also offers a wide variety of wines of D.O. Toro, D.O.Ribera del Duero, and D.O.Rueda. The Douro is a perfect place for nature lovers, offering a variety of wildlife reserves, such as Las Lagunas de Villafafila and Sotos de La Vega. The latter is a Ramsar-listed natural site and one of the most important wetland areas in this part of Europe. It’s also an important bird’s area, home to many species of aquatic birds. Further to the east, visitors may enjoy the National Park Bierzo, where they can explore forests and mountains. No matter the season, the Duero River is a great place to visit and discover unique landscapes.
