📍 Ireland
Dublin, Ireland’s capital, grew around the River Liffey, and Dublin 8 takes in much of the city’s historic western inner area. Here, the Liberties preserves a strong connection to working Dublin, with streets shaped by weaving, distilling and brewing. The Guinness brewery at St James’s Gate remains a defining presence, while Christ Church Cathedral and St Patrick’s Cathedral anchor the district’s medieval heritage. For photographs, the area’s character lies in contrasts: cathedral towers above low-rise streets, dark brewery gates against red brick, and old shopfronts beside newer buildings. Farther west, Kilmainham Gaol connects the district to the struggle for Irish independence; its stark prison interiors are accessible through guided visits.
