Dronningens gate 27 is home to Basarhallene, the historic bazaar halls curving around the churchyard of Oslo Cathedral near the lower end of Karl Johans gate. Designed by Christian H. Grosch and built in the mid-19th century, the red-brick arcades originally provided orderly premises for market traders. Their rounded arches, repeating bays and gently bending façade create strong rhythm and depth in photographs, while views through the passageways frame the cathedral, surrounding streets and everyday city life. The contrast between warm brick, pale stone details and the cathedral’s tower makes the complex a distinctive architectural feature of central Oslo.
