๐ Netherlands
Dorpsomroeper Barend Smits is a unique monument that was created to honor a Dutch resistance fighter during World War II. The figure stands atop a 4 metre high tower, coated in bright yellow and copper, holding a bugle at the ready. It's a recognizable symbol of Spijkenisse in the south of the Netherlands and is a great talking point on any visit to the town. While the statue itself is an impressive sight, the view from it on a clear day is unrivalled. You can see the harbours and industrial sites of Spijkenisse and it's an opportunity to get a unique glimpse of the town's younger side. Grab your cameras and take a trip to an area of the Netherlands not often visited by tourists!
