📍 Japan
Tokyo Skytree is a 634-meter broadcasting and observation tower in Oshiage, Sumida City, on the eastern side of Tokyo. Opened in 2012, it rises above the lower rooftops of a district long associated with workshops, commerce, and everyday life along the Sumida River. Its height carries a cultural reference: the digits 6, 3, and 4 can be read as “Musashi,” the historical province that included much of present-day Tokyo. The tower’s pale steel lattice changes from a triangular footprint into a circular form as it rises, giving its silhouette subtly different contours from different viewpoints. Observation decks at 350 and 450 meters reveal the river’s curves and the dense spread of the capital, with Mount Fuji visible in clear conditions. At ground level, the Tokyo Solamachi shopping complex adds a busy urban foreground that emphasizes the tower’s extraordinary scale.
