📍 From 江西北路 / Jiangxi North Road, China
The Oriental Pearl TV Tower rises 468 meters above Lujiazui in Shanghai’s Pudong district, on the east bank of the Huangpu River opposite the historic Bund. Built in the 1990s as a broadcasting and observation tower, it became a defining symbol of Pudong’s emergence as a modern financial center. Its stacked pink-toned spheres, slender vertical shafts, and three massive angled supports create a silhouette distinct from the glass skyscrapers around it. From the Bund, the tower is seen across the river within the dense Pudong skyline, a striking contrast to the older waterfront’s stone façades. Its observation decks, including a glass-floored viewing area, reveal the river’s curve and the scale of central Shanghai. After dark, illuminated spheres and passing riverboats add color and movement to this recognizable waterfront scene.
