Donaghadee Lighthouse is a Grade B listed building that was built in 1836 to protect passing ships from the dangerous rocks in one of Northern Ireland's busiest sea approaches. The lighthouse is visible from the shore of Donaghadee town, which lies about 5 miles option of Belfast and stretches for about 600 meters. Once the tallest lighthouse in Ireland, it is now around 25 meters in height and is beautifully set on a promontory that reaches out into the Irish Sea. The exterior is marked by the fluted pillars and large spaced windows. The lighthouse features an exhibition area with local history and photos, a gift shop and a tea room. The site offers incredible views of the Irish Sea and Sheep Island, and you can climb the 20 winding steps to the top of the lighthouse. A great spot for photographers and sightseers.
