Dolmabahçe Palace is one of the most iconic monuments in Turkey. It is a magnificent Ottoman palace that was once the home of the Ottoman sultans who ruled the country for over four hundred years until the dissolution of the empire in 1922. The palace was built in 1853 and is the largest palace of its kind in the world. It is situated on the banks of the Bosphorus in Vişnezade and is composed of three rooms, as well as two terraced gardens. Visitors can take a guided tour through the monumental rooms, which range from the ornate imperial apartments to the vast ballroom for grand ceremonies. The immense collections of Ottoman art, antiques and furniture in the palace are also a must-see for visitors. The palace is also close to some of Turkey’s most popular tourist attractions, such as Spice Bazaar, the Bosphorus and Hagia Sophia Mosque.
