Điện Kiến Trung
📍 Vietnam
Điện Kiến Trung stands in the northern part of Huế’s Forbidden Purple City, the innermost precinct of the Nguyễn imperial complex. Built in the early 1920s for Emperor Khải Định and later used by Bảo Đại, Vietnam’s last emperor, the palace reflects the court’s embrace of European architectural influences alongside Vietnamese traditions. Its symmetrical, two-storey façade combines columns and balustraded terraces with dragon motifs and elaborate, brightly colored ceramic ornament. Destroyed in 1947 and subsequently reconstructed, the building seen today revives the palace’s imperial appearance rather than preserving an intact original. Broad views reveal its formal symmetry, while closer compositions bring out the mosaic textures and densely decorated roofline.
