📍 Japan
Devil's Washboard, in Aoshima, Miyazaki, is a unique geological formation featuring rows of parallel, wave-like rock ridges along the coastline. These terraced formations are primarily composed of sandstone and shale, creating a striking contrast with the blue sea. The patterns are best seen at low tide, when more of the ridges are exposed, providing an excellent opportunity for aerial photography. While visiting, explore nearby Aoshima Island, which is connected by a bridge, and is known for its lush subtropical rainforest and the revered Aoshima Shrine. Both sunrise and sunset offer magical lighting for photography, making the intricate patterns even more astonishing.
