📍 Germany
The Deutscher Dom (or German Cathedral), an iconic building located in the Gendarmenmarkt City Square of Berlin, Germany, is a great hub for history and art lovers. Built in 1708, this baroque tudor-style church is one of the most significant landmarks of the city. As visitors approach the building they will be taken aback by the impressive proportions, impressive pillared façade, and dome overlooking the square. Inside, the church features a high altar by Johann Peter Benkert, the famous nineteenth-century Meissen porcelain chandelier, and intricate frescoes painted by Johann Philipp Bayer.
The Deutscher Dom is not only a religious and a cultural hub, but also a political destination in Berlin. This is because the dome was once used as a seat of political power by the Prussian National Assembly in 1848. Nowadays, visitors are invited to explore the interior of the cathedral, as well as the dome, for incredible views of the city. There is also an informative museum located in the basement, where visitors can gain insight into the history of the venue.
