De Molen is a historic windmill in Foxton, New Zealand. This iconic structure is a great photographic subject for visitors when they come here. Originally built in 1871, it stands tall amid the lush green landscapes of the Horowhenua district. It had to be restored after an arson attack in 1988. Due to the wood direction of the sails determines the wind direction, the sails can be seen turning in the wind. It is also a symbol signifying the settlement of rural New Zealand and is a reminder of the times of agricultural progress and technology. An interesting fact about this windmill is that it was a popular spot for lunch for to the passengers of the train used for transportation in Foxton. Kahuterawa Reserve is located next to this windmill. There is a picnic area with lots of tables, and it is a great place to explore with some awesome views.
