Dar Jamai Museum occupies a late-19th-century palace beside El Hedim Square in Meknès’s historic medina, close to the monumental Bab Mansour gate. Built for the Jamaï family, whose members held prominent positions at the Moroccan court, the residence preserves the richly decorated interiors of an elite urban household. Today, the museum focuses on Morocco’s musical heritage, with instruments and displays exploring the country’s varied traditions. Zellij tile mosaics, carved plaster and painted wooden ceilings give the rooms their distinctive layers of pattern and texture, while the enclosed garden offers a quieter contrast to the busy square outside. The setting makes the architecture as much a part of the visual story as the collections.
