📍 China
Daocheng Yading is a high-mountain nature reserve in Daocheng County, in Sichuan’s Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Its landscape centers on three snow-covered peaks—Xiannairi, Yangmaiyong and Xianuoduoji—revered in Tibetan Buddhism, giving the scenery a religious significance beyond its dramatic scale. Forested valleys open into alpine meadows, while Milk Lake and Five-Color Lake occupy stark, rocky terrain higher in the mountains. At Luorong Pasture, streams wind through grassland beneath the peaks; around Chonggu Monastery, Tibetan religious architecture provides a human scale against the surrounding forests and mountains. Autumn brings yellow larches into contrast with evergreen trees and white summits. Reaching the upper lakes involves strenuous walking above 4,000 meters, an important distinction from the more accessible valley scenery.
