Cunerakerk anchors the historic center of Rhenen, close to the Rhine and the edge of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The late-Gothic church is dedicated to Saint Cunera, whose medieval cult made Rhenen an important pilgrimage destination. Its soaring Cuneratoren, built in richly detailed Gothic forms and influenced by Utrecht’s Dom Tower, dominates the townscape and remains visible from the surrounding river landscape. From nearby streets, the tower’s layered buttresses, arches and pinnacles create strong upward lines; from the floodplain, its silhouette forms a clear landmark above the low roofs and trees. Inside, the historic choir screen reflects the church’s pre-Reformation past and adds finely carved contrast to the spacious stone interior.
