📍 From Jardines de Murillo, Spain
Cristóbal Colón's monument is a white marble fountain located in the Plaza de América in Sevilla, Spain. The monument was built in 1929 and is an ode to the Spanish navigator and explorer Christopher Columbus. The monument depicts four female allegorical figures, the “sovereignty”, the “motherland”, “commerce” and “industry”, which are meant to represent the four continents of Asia, Africa, America and Europe, paying homage to Columbus’ discoveries. In the center of the monument is a bronze-relief of Christopher Columbus, pointing towards the horizon, with a globe in one hand and a quill in the other. Around the monument are stone benches where people can sit and relax and take in its beauty.
