📍 From Inside, Canada
Crew Collective & Café occupies the former Royal Bank of Canada headquarters on rue Saint-Jacques in Old Montréal, a street closely tied to the city’s financial history. Completed in 1928, the building preserves a monumental banking hall whose ornate ceiling, marble surfaces and brass details reflect the prestige banks once expressed through architecture. Today, the hall combines a public café with coworking areas, bringing everyday activity into a space designed for grand institutional display. Former teller counters remain part of the interior, while contemporary glass partitions distinguish the new workspaces without hiding the historic structure. The hall’s soaring proportions and richly patterned ceiling define wide interior views; closer compositions reveal the contrast between polished stone, decorative metalwork and the modest scale of café tables beneath them.
