The Conowingo Bridge is a bridge that carries Maryland Route 222 over the Susquehanna River near Darlington, Maryland, United States. Built in 1928 at a cost of $4 million, the bridge opened to traffic in December of that same year. The bridge is 1,600 ft long and has two traffic lanes with a speed limit of 45 mph. The bridge offers stunning views of the river and its rocky banks and the surrounding countryside. It is a popular destination for cycling, fishing, and curling. The Conowingo also serves as a great point for birding with many species to spot including Bald Eagle, Osprey, Northern Harrier, and several waterfowl species. The area near the bridge is also known for its abundance of large river mussels, some of which can be seen measuring up to 6 inches in length!
