Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and one of the most popular destinations in the UK. Its cobbled streets, winding alleys and beautiful buildings will take you back in time. The city sits on a series of hills, the highest of which is Arthur's Seat with great views of the city. With its history of horror and Gothic architecture, Edinburgh's old town is an atmospheric place perfect for getting an insight into Scottish culture. You can wander through the Royal Mile, exploring narrow alleyways - stopping at an archaeological site and castle - as well as paying a visit to the National Museum of Scotland. The old town has plenty of places to eat and drink, from traditional pubs such as The Last Drop and the Museum Tavern, to cafes, restaurants and food markets. Further away from the centre, you'll find the stunning Royal Botanic Garden, where you can enjoy a picnic, go for a stroll, or visit the nearby Scottish Parliament Building.
