The Confraternita di San Giuseppe e della Buona Morte is a historic Catholic lay brotherhood associated with the Church of San Giuseppe in Gallipoli’s island old town, where small devotional buildings are woven into narrow lanes near the Ionian waterfront. Its dedication joins Saint Joseph with the “Good Death,” the Catholic ideal of dying spiritually prepared and a devotion traditionally linked to Joseph. The confraternity forms part of Gallipoli’s enduring culture of religious brotherhoods, expressed through worship and processional traditions. Visually, its modest sacred setting and warm Salento stone are best understood within the dense, whitewashed fabric of the historic center rather than as an isolated monument.
