Comune di Dobbiaco, known in German as Toblach, occupies a broad Alpine basin in South Tyrol’s upper Puster Valley, close to the junction with the Höhlenstein Valley leading into the Dolomites. The municipality lies near the watershed between the Rienz, flowing toward the Adriatic, and the Drava, which continues east toward the Danube. Its bilingual character reflects the region’s Italian and Austro-Tyrolean heritage, visible in place names, architecture, and daily life. Photographs from the village often layer church towers, traditional farmhouses, and wooded slopes against pale Dolomite peaks. The wider municipal area includes Lake Dobbiaco and landscapes associated with the Three Peaks Nature Park, while the former Grand Hotel near the railway station recalls the town’s development as an Alpine resort and cultural center.
